...and other actions
leading up to COP26
The United Nations 'Conference of the Parties' Climate Change Conference (COP26) will be held this November in Glasgow. This is a crucial event, marking the sixth anniversary of the Paris Climate agreement, with its largely unfulfilled commitment to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. As the UN says, 'COP26 needs to be decisive' in holding nations to the Paris commitments, and ensuring that decarbonisation actually takes place.
In the run up to this event, Friends of the Earth and many other organisations are planning nationwide activities to show politicians that the public is holding them to account, and demanding real, significant measures to ensure the survival of life on this planet.
Brent Friends of the Earth will be taking part in such actions, in cooperation with other local organisations, and acting as part of the Climate Coalition. We will be planning local activities as part of the Great Big Green Week from 18th-26th September, as well as taking part in national actions planned by Friends of the Earth for the opening days of the Conference.
If you as an individual, or as part of an organisation, would like to contribute locally in any way - putting on your own event, whether it be litter-picking, a tea-party, a bike ride, putting up bunting, a dance or a comedy event - please let us know.
We will be planning more at our next meeting on August 10th 2021. It would be great to see you there.
